OSHER 777 - English Poetry: A Brief Survey

Beginning with Shakespeare's sonnets and moving chronologically to select writers including Ben Jonson, John Donne, Andrew Marvell, Robert Burns and William Blake, we will discuss poems written between the 16th century and the early 19th century. Develop an appreciation for the thinking, values, and social mores by reading, recounting, and reflecting on our literary predecessors. A reading packet will be provided to registered students in advance of the first class.
