OSHER 776 - Doig's Montana Trilogy: The Past as Prologue

Ivan Doig (1939-2015) produced three novels that deal with Montana from statehood in 1889 to its centennial in 1989: Dancing at the Rascal Fair (1987), English Creek (1984), and Ride with Me, Maria Montana (1990). Through discussion of this trilogy and Doig's memoir, This House of Sky: Landscapes of a Western Mind (1978), we will gain insight into problems Scots faced as they immigrated to establish an empire in a difficult land.
