Description
This Foundation Course discusses ways language is used by and interacts with positions of power. A major theme is: who gets to decide what types of language are legitimate, acceptable in public discourse, and worthy of preservation? Specific topics include: language's influence on thought, sign languages and creoles, language death, and bilingualism.
