Description
We value and fear diversity at the same time. the purpose of this course is to gain an understanding of the ways in which diversity has been both constructed and explained. We will focus on the exclusion, especially as it motivated by perception of race and class, and will examine this process as occurs international, beginning with historical context of European colonialism and scientific racism. We will briefly consider the cases of India, Australia, and Rwanda. We will end with an in-depth look at a case of South Africa. The pedagogy will shift at the end of the class to an intensive role playing game. the goals of the role playing exercise are to enhance critical thinking skills of the students and encourage students to explore the problems of healing and unity in a fractured society.
