OSHER 562 - Hiking for Health and Enjoyment

Six local hikes will feature low-stress adventuring in a supportive and informative learning environment. The first class discussion will set the stage for a short hike on the University of Utah campus. We will meet for subsequent weekly hikes at various trailheads within 30 minutes? drive. Each hike will be less than two miles long, with low elevation gain and frequent breaks. On-trail instruction will cover topics such as gear, techniques, hazard management, social aspects, natural history, human history, and additional hiking opportunities for those interested in going further afield. Be prepared to hike in light rain; however, if severe weather is anticipated during a scheduled hike, we will meet indoors on that day. Wear appropriate clothing and bring sunscreen, sun glasses, hat, adequate water, and snacks.
