Description
Working with metal doesn't always require a torch and chemicals. Explore techniques in jewelry making using cold connections. Students will create a mixed metal cuff bracelet, earrings with handmade ear wires and a pendant using 'cold connections' such as riveting and wire wrapping. Techniques covered will be texturing, stamping, cutting, drilling, piercing and filing metals, wire wrapping, riveting, oxidizing and finishing. Materials fee covers metal sheet (copper, brass and sterling silver) sterling silver wire, leather or wax string and jump rings for completing a necklace. The kit includes enough materials to make a cuff bracelet, two pairs of earrings and a pendant along with enough extra for practicing techniques. Students are encouraged to bring any favorite hand tools and beads or found objects they would like to incorporate into their pieces.
