OSHER 507 - Hand-building Ceramics: Hump and Slump Molding and Colored Slips

Many of us think of ceramics or pottery and think wheel. Some may even have memories of trying to center that darn lump of clay. Hand building opens the world of ceramics to anyone with a rolling pin and a table ? no wheel, no centering. Anything that can be thrown on a wheel can be hand built. We will focus on building shallow forms such as plates, platters, and shallow bowls with slabs and hump and slump molds. We will decorate our forms with colored slips before glazing and high firing. All ware will be oven microwave, and food safe. Special fee includes one bag of clay and use of studio tools and materials. Open studio time is available for working on projects outside of class.
