Description
This course reviews systems of care in criminal and juvenile justice as well as victim services. Students will learn about the statutory authority of the judicial, executive, and legislative branches of government as well as the administrative and funding structures of these as they relate to the criminal justice system. Students will analyze major criminal justice and child welfare policies and learn how these policies inform the implementation of programs and social work practice with forensic populations. Systems of care within the justice system will be explored through guest lectures by local leaders from the courts, law enforcement, correctional system, child protection, probation and parole, drug and mental health courts, and community based treatment providers.
