H EDU 5060 - International Health Promotion

Are you interested in international health? Whether it is third-world issues or big city pollution, this course talks about it. The purpose of this course is to provide students with an advanced overview of prevalent health problems and issues that affect humankind throughout the world. Emphasizing a health promotion framework for addressing global health and wellness, this course will take an interdisciplinary approach including clinical, epidemiological, and ethnographic perspectives on cross-cultural health issues. Major preventable causes of death in developing nations will be studied as well as issues of important social consequence such as illiteracy, gender issues, and child labor. Current organization, programs, and methodologies, which work to combat current societal plagues, will also be discussed. Students will learn to see-complex health issues through the eyes of other cultures, traditions, and peoples.
