LING 3170 - Language and Nature

This course considers language from the perspective of natural sciences, specifically, biology. The topics discussed in the course include human and animal 'languages,' how human language emerged and how children can learn any human language. A recurring question, which we will explore from different perspectives, is the following: what is unique about human language? In other words, what is human language.
