Description
This class focuses on the intersection of popular culture and consumer culture, in particular, the powerful media messages we encounter in our everyday lives. We will examine: the difference between high and low culture; the popularizing of the self through our purchasing habits; the representation of others in popular culture; and the potential impact of global popular culture on various cultures. Our goal is to better understand popular culture and the role it plays in creating social image.
