Description
From the1960s to the1990s, the European art film captured the imagination of the intelligent moviegoer. Bergman, Fellini, Truffaut, and others became box office successes and inspired Americans like Kubrick and Coppola to make similar auteur films. The class will examine this phenomenon --- the structures and meanings that made these films popular and their directors' names household words. Further, we will try to understand why such films are no longer a part of movie culture.
