Description
The rocks of Utah and surrounding states represent a wide range of geologic time periods of earth. Through rocks we can learn the story of rising and eroding mountain ranges, the transgression and regression of ocean waters onto the continents, and the advance and retreat of glaciers. We'll begin with an overview of plate tectonics as seen in the area's national parks and monuments, and use that to guide us through deep time of our geologic past. We will look specifically at the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Arches and Yellowstone National Parks, Dinosaur and Craters of the Moon National Monuments and the Great Salt Lake Valley.
