Description
Land and environmental art has become an elastic category covering a wide range of artisitc practices from the earthworks and environmental actions of the 1960s and 1970s to the experimental geographies, mappings, land modificaitons, para-fications, and participartory projects of recent contemporary art. This course will consider the historical specificity and conceptual, aesthetic and political stakes of land and environmental art of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the very differently motivated land-based practices of contemporary artists and collectives who have negotiated the legacy of this earlier work.
