Description
An important and often neglected part of writing is reading. We are readers before we are writers, and reading continues to shape, to fill, and to drive our work once we become writers. In this class we will explore the act of writerly reading: how does it differ from other kinds of reading? What do writers notice in the writing of others that the average reader might not, and how do they use what they find in their own work, without becoming imitative? Show up prepared to read, mark, and discuss. This course is designed to be taken in conjunction with Toolbox Basics (LLWRC 780).
