Description
Expand your drumming skills and improvisational ability in this intermediate-level class. After a review of djembe playing techniques (bass, tone, and slap), we will introduce dunun drums, the foundation for Malinke djembe rhythms. During the course, you can expect to learn complete polyrhythms from Guinea and Mali on djembe and dunun, expand your improv skills and soloing techniques in a community drum circle setting, and prepare to accompany weekly African dance classes as a djembe or dunun drummer. Prerequisite: African Drumming (LLMT 415) or equivalent.
