OSHER 344 - Opera: Past, Present, and Future

Enhance your enjoyment of opera by becoming a more educated patron. Opera is rooted in history, but is also a dynamic, ever-changing genre. We will explore the major developments in 400 years of opera history, master terminology pertinent to the field, learn about all the art forms involved in opera, and experience many highlights along the way. We'll look behind the scenes at careers in the various art forms, check out current trends, and even prepare for Utah Opera's 2012-13 season. Class members are invited to attend the student dress rehearsal of "Of Mice and Men" on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at a cost of $5 per person (payable to the instructor). Each student may bring one guest at the same price.
