Description
The Marmalade is a monument to the skill, taste, and resourcefulness of its pioneer inhabitants. So called because its streets were named for the fruit-bearing trees imported and planted there by early residents, Marmalade is distinguished from other neighborhoods by steep, narrow, angular streets with a surprising variety of vintage residential buildings. Within a single one-block area, you can find almost as many styles of architecture as exist in the entire Avenues district. Join us as we learn the stories behind some of the city's oldest adobe homes, rare local examples of the Carpenter Gothic style, and the onion-domed 19th Ward Chapel. Please meet at the corner of Quince (approximately 200 W) and 300 N at 5:50 PM.
