Description
Best known for his unidealized landscapes of rural Utah, Utah artist LeConte Stewart's contributions to the world of art spanned nearly 70 years. In this class, we will examine Stewart's imagery during the Great Depression and his place among the American Scene and Regionalist painters of the 1930s. More than 100 of Stewart's paintings and works on paper will be exhibited at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts during this class; participants will view many works never before exhibited or illustrated. Part fine art, part history, part philosophy, LeConte's paintings divulge a view of Utah from a past that is eerily reflective of the present.
