Description
Young adult fiction is one of the most successful and interesting categories in publishing today. In the 30 or so years since the term 'young adult literature' was coined, YA has grown to encompass chick lit, fantasy, gothic romance, sci-fi, realistic contemporary fiction, novels in verse, and graphic novels---all with the common denominator of being for and about teens. Whether you are an aspiring writer of YA or simply a fan of the genre, you'll enjoy this one-day workshop in which we'll talk about trends in YA fiction, classic and current acclaimed YA novels, how teen readers differ from adult readers, and whether or not writers of YA have a special responsibility to their audience. We'll also discuss the business of getting published and where the YA category is headed. Writers will have the opportunity to submit 10 pages of a work in progress for critique.
