Description
Cooperative strategies have become a prominent feature of the modern competitive landscape. This course focuses on the strategic use of alliances and joint ventures, in which two or more firms join forces for competitive advantage. It also explores the use of acquisitions and the strategic impact of industry consolidation. The course is intended to increase the effectiveness of students at analyzing issues related to strategy, organization, and technology as they apply to these actions. The advantages and disadvantages of alliances are developed in detail. The organizational challenges of successful and unsuccessful acquisitions also are examined. In particular, the strategic choice of alliance, a startup, or acquisition as a way to increase the knowledge and capabilities of a firm is developed.
