Description
This course uses knowledge about how students learn to focus on how educational leaders organize and support teaching to promote effective, equitable, and democratic instruction. The goal of this course is to expose students to the theories, principles, and practices of instructional leadership in the context of current school reform for raising student achievement, closing the achievement gap and creating democratic and just school communities. Course content includes principles of adult learning, motivation of teachers, instructional supervision, professional development, the nature of teaching, organizational supports for teaching, and the use of assessment to improve instruction. An emphasis is placed on developing a professional community that supports the learning of teachers and students alike.
