Description
Love the lines of your dresser or side chair but embarrassed by scratches or an outdated finish? Fascinated by thrift stores but lack the know-how to make that interesting piece truly shine? In this class, you will learn to assess the condition, shape, and style of furniture for makeover possibilities. Then, with user-friendly hardware-store products, you will learn options for updating the existing finish, how to judge when furniture needs stripping, and the correct way to prepare old surfaces for fresh paint. We will create both classic finishes and contemporary looks on take-home sample boards, and practice a variety of distressing and colorful layering techniques on demo furniture. We will also cover changing out hardware and basic upholstery. You may bring a small, easily transportable piece (such as a small chair or side table) to work on; for specific advice on larger projects, please bring photos. Artistic ability and/or painting experience are not required.
