EDTEC 513 - Enterprise Linux Network Srvs

Designed for students interested in developing skills as network administrators. Topics explored and implemented include the setup and maintenance of many network services available for Linux and Unix, including servers for DNS, SMB (Windows networking), e-mail servers, FTP, web, and caching proxy. Special attention is paid to concepts needed to implement these services securely, and to trouble-shooting skills necessary for real-world administration of network services. Individuals wishing to take this class should have a solid grounding in UNIX concepts and basic systems administration. Fundamentals such as an understanding of the Linux filesystem, process management, and the ability to manipulate and edit files is a must and will not be covered in class. A good understanding of network concepts and the TCP/ IP protocol suite is also required. Completion of both Enterprise Linux Network Services and Linux Troubleshooting courses prepares for the LPI 2 and Red Hat Certified Engineer Certification exams. Prerequisites: Equivalent knowledge of the Linux Fundamentals and Enterprise Linux Systems Administration courses. Admitted U of U students may take this course for credit.
