Description
Did you recently combine households and decide to rent one residence? Are you considering renting out that mother-in-law apartment in your basement? Are you looking to buy a duplex so you can rent out one half? If you have suddenly found yourself a landlord or are considering becoming one, you would be wise to inform yourself early on about the legal, financial, and tax ramifications that can affect your situation. In this class we will cover your responsibilities as a landlord, what to look for in a tenant, rental leases, how rental income affects deductions and capital gains, and common pitfalls to watch out for. Because every situation is different and real estate tax law is very complex, this class will NOT provide detailed case-by-case information. Rather, it will make you aware of the issues and provide you with the background to ask informed questions of your personal tax advisor. Milo has a Ph.D. in communication sciences and appears in Who's Who in America. He is a licensed real estate broker with more than 30 years experience in residential real estate.
