Description
This course will examine African American education from a historical perspective. Specifically, we will explore the following: 1) the history of Black education prior to Emancipation and after the Civil War; 2) educational ideologies during the Post-Reconstruction years; 3) the educational ideologies of selected educators and philanthropists and their impact on the education of African Americans. The intersection of race, class and gender will be fundamental to our analysis of Black education. Students enrolled in 7612 will be expected to meet a higher standard of performance and may be assigned additional work.
