LLWRC 788 - Get Started: Read Like a Poet

Witty, lyrical, funny, deeply moving - poetry is all these things and more. Yet many of us avoid poetry because we are afraid of it - somewhere in school we got the idea that we weren't smart enough to 'understand' poems. But you don't have to be 'deep' or excessively intellectual to enjoy poetry. In this class, we will read a selection of wonderful poems, enjoying their music, wit, and range of feeling, and explore the ways in which poets use the tricks of their trade to do what they do. Enjoy this one-day workshop by itself, or in combination with 'Get Serious: The Poet's Toolbox.' Please bring a bag lunch.
