Students will gain exposure to several fixed-income securities including risk-free bonds, corporate bonds, interest rate swaps, various interest rate options, forward rate agreements, and more. Most of the course will focus on interest rate risk and derivative securities related to interest rates. Time permitting, we will discuss corporate bonds, credit default swaps, and credit risk, in general. This course is an intensive course that contains institutional details, concepts, and quantitative analysis. To be successful in this course, you should be competent with basic financial mathematics such as that covered FINAN 6020, or 5050. A conceptual and operational familiarity with principles of investing as well as derivatives pricing will be beneficial for this course. Upon completion of the class, students should understand the institutional details of the various securities discussed, understand their risk characteristics, and understand how they are priced.
