Description
What is reality? The 20th century began with the certainties of absolute knowledge and ended with the knowledge of absolute uncertainty. Perhaps during the 21st century we will find the knowledge for a whole new world for science and humanity. This two-session class will look at the approach science takes in seeking truth, searching for reality, and will be designed to prepare class members for details to come in a full six-week class in the Fall. These sessions will establish a basis for understanding why science is so useful, yet sometimes appears to cause insurmountable problems. The emphasis will center around the ongoing effort to find a "Theory of Everything". This class is suitable for people with either scientific or non-scientific backgrounds, only requiring an interest in how science affects our world, and therefore us as individuals.
