Description
In this course, students will develop and refine their writing and communication skills to prepare them both for future academic projects and their professional career. In this course, we will closely read a series of published articles in public health to familiarize ourselves with the expectations of the genre and determine best practices for writing introductions, methods, results, and discussion sections. Students will write an introduction for a currently in-progress or planned paper. Other assignments will include a scientific poster and a commentary in response to a recently published article. Throughout the class, we will discuss and practice the craft of writing clear sentences as well as strategies for synthesis, paraphrasing, organizing, concision, and revision.
